Three escape tragedy after car falls into Crystal River

Marci Krivonen

At about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, first responders from Carbondale found three people who were safely out of their car and the river. There was, however, no sign of the car.

One person was transported to Valley View Hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters later discovered the white Ford Fiesta about a mile downstream, near mile marker 60 on Highway 133.

The car is still in the river, anchored to a tree, and will remain there until it can be towed. Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District’s assistant chief Allan Ingram warns it is not safe to approach the vehicle.
